More Rove

Ah, the cacophony.

NYT: "Karl was simply pointing out the different philosophies and different approaches when it comes to winning the war on terrorism," said Scott McClellan.

Froomkin: Chief of Staff Andrew H. Card Jr. had this to say on CNN : "Karl Rove's speech was a speech that I think reflected some of the rhetoric that a lot of people feel."

Post: Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman said a litany of comments by Democratic elected officials and their liberal allies underscored Rove's point. "It is outrageous," he said, "that the same Democratic leaders who refused to repudiate or criticize Dick Durbin's slandering of our military are now attacking Karl Rove for stating the facts. . . . Karl didn't say the Democratic Party. He said liberals."

People, amidst all of this weak-assed spin, don't forget that Karl Rove essentially said that "the motives of liberals" are to put "America's men and women in uniform in greater danger."

To which, the only rational, reasoned response is: Fuck you.

Rove and Bush's politics

Please read Mr. Marshall on Rove's comments.

Well said.

In a nutshell, here are Bush/Rove's political tactics:

Demonize 20% of the people (liberals)
Excite 20% of the people (conservative)
Lie like hell to everyone else

Suggested question for the press: "How does Mr. Bush feel that demonizing liberals will help his agenda in regards to [insert issue here; Iraq, Social Security, etc.]?"

Picking nits

Link:

Perhaps this is just nit-picking, but here is a sentence from a story about the Bolton nomination:

Dodd (D-Conn.) and Biden have led their party's opposition to Bolton, a combative former State Department official who is championed by many conservatives and strenuously opposed by liberals.

The Bolton nomination is a conservative v. liberal issue? I think that the Bolton-UN guru Steve Clemons would disagree.

Let's all happily look forward to being demoted in our older years.

Hooray demotions!
